Psychotherapy FAQS

  • Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance, I am considered out-of-network. Many of my clients request an invoice of the sessions they’ve paid for (a “superbill”), that they submit to their insurance company for reimbursement (typically only for PPO plans, usually either a percentage or a set dollar amount). You would need to inquire with your insurance company about your plan and reimbursement policy.

  • What are your fees?

I have a siding scale of $175-$225. I trust clients to pay me fairly and at the highest rate they can afford, so you set your rate within this range.

Additionally, here’s some legal jargon I’m required to share: You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.

  • Do you offer a free consultation?

I offer a free initial 10-15-minute phone consultation to determine if we are a good fit.

  • What do sessions with you look like?

Once we’ve decided to schedule a session, you will fill out some information about yourself and your goals online before our first meeting so that we can spend less time gathering basic info and more time getting right to work. The first few sessions are about getting to know you and your needs, and providing a safe, supportive space for you to process and explore your mental and emotional wellness goals, which we will work on collaboratively.

  • How long and how often are therapy sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes long, unless more time is needed (the rate would be adjusted accordingly). It is best to do weekly sessions in the beginning and assess from there.

  • Are you in-person or online?

I currently do online virtual sessions only.

  • What’s your experience?

I’ve been a psychotherapist for about 15 years. I’ve been an explorer and practitioner of mind-body methods, particularly mindfulness and meditation, for over 30 years. I completed teacher-training in both MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress-Reduction), and Mindfulness-Based Habit Formation. I have over 50 years of experience living on this planet. I’ve been around a while, and learned some things. I’ve survived a traumatic childhood, and life as a woman of color. I’m a strong, sensitive, intuitive human who’s always loved helping others, and sharing strength and wisdom with others. Feel free to check out my bio for more info.
